Description
3D Sound (3DS) mutes produce a slightly darker, richer sound than Prizma mutes with more volume reduction. 3DS mutes have a negligible effect on behind-bridge harmonics.
3DS mutes should be affixed to the string windings when not in use to prevent them from rattling or buzzing on the strings. The dual tone model may be completely removed or mounted using the middle slots 10mm to 20mm behind the bridge. 3DS mutes are rigid due to their closed-face construction that helps keep rosin, dust, and dirt out of the muting chambers.
All mutes are manufactured using a synthetic that does not stain or streak the bridge. Over time, the material will memorize the shape of the bridge. Mutes must be used a few times before they break in and conform to the bridge. This process may be accelerated by warming the mute and then mounting it. An experienced luthier may also offer to thermofit your mute to your instrument.
