Description

Made during the golden age of Bohemian violin making in Schoenbach, Czechoslovakia c. 1905, this Master Art Gagliano Model violin from the workshop of John Juzek possesses a rich and powerful tone. Its sound is so fine, that early in the instruments life, an unscrupulous owner removed the instruments original Juzek label, replaced it with an artificially aged facsimile, and sold the instrument as the work of the 18th century Italian violin maker, Tommaso Balestrieri.

The violin's top is made of spruce with a fine grain that gets gradually wider as it approaches the edges from the center seam. The two piece maple back has medium width flames that descend from the central joint. The instrument is heavily antiqued in a manner consistent with other Master Art violins from the period. The instrument is in good condition with only a few minor repaired top cracks.
